Concrete is frequently used in construction and home projects. Whether you are constructing a building that needs a foundation, ready to replace your gravel driveway, or simply just need a slab, utilizing the right equipment is essential.

But how do you know what tools to use?

There are a plethora of tools available for concrete work of every type. From mixers to finishing tools and everything in between. To help you better understand what concrete equipment you might need for your next project, Ultimate Equipment Rentals is here! Our team is extremely familiar with and knowledgeable about everything concrete related.

Concrete Mixer

A concrete mixer is, of course, one of the most essential pieces of equipment if you are planning to do any kind of concrete work. A mixer is a rotating drum or barrel that mixes the cement together. The rotating movement also prevents the cement from settling and becoming caked to the inside of the mixer. Concrete mixers are frequently a rented piece of equipment because you will only use it once and they are great for small to medium sized projects.

Concrete Buggy

Used to transport and dump concrete, a concrete buggy offers an efficient way to move materials around a jobsite. Many homeowners will use a wheelbarrow to move material, which while it is effective, it can be time consuming and can easily cause physical pain. By renting a concrete buggy, you not only will save a bit of time, but you will also save your back!

Concrete Vibrator

To create a stronger concrete, you will need a concrete vibrator for any project. By vigorously shaking the concrete immediately after it is poured, you eliminate any air bubbles or pockets that may form during the pouring process. A concrete vibrator will also remove excess water. Air and water left in the concrete will create defects within the finished product.

Concrete Trowel Machine

To apply a level surface and smooth finish to a concrete slab, you will need a trowel machine. There are walk behind and ride on trowel machines that are great for large pours. A trowel machine consists of one or multiple rotating blades that rapidly spin to provide a smooth and level finish. While there are hand trowels and screeds available, they are physically taxing and will take a lot longer to complete the concrete finishing.

Concrete Grinder

Used as a finishing tool, a concrete grinder is another essential tool for your next concrete project. A grinder will smooth out the surface using its rotating discs that are engineered with diamond bits. You can also use a concrete grinder if a slab has been over-troweled or there is excessive moisture sealed into the slab. If you want a distressed finish, you can use the grinder for an aesthetic effect.

Concrete Floor Saw

When a slab of concrete is poured, expansion joints are necessary to prevent significant damage to your concrete. A floor saw is used to cut these expansion joints in the concrete, which also makes it an essential tool for your concrete project. A concrete floor saw also can be used to remove damaged sections, clean & repair cracks, or for demolition purposes. Renting a concrete floor saw is significantly cheaper than buying one and you likely will only use it a few times.

Other Equipment Needs

There are other tools and pieces of equipment you will need or may want before you start your concrete project. For example, you will need formwork to provide temporary support for the concrete until it hardens. Additionally, you may want some curing and moisture control equipment to maintain moisture levels and prevent cracking. Before you set out on a concrete project, do your research and determine exactly what you will need for your specific job.
